Chapter 763: Chapter 764: How Many Levels Behind_1 Chapter 763: Chapter 764: How Many Levels Behind_1 Zhou Mei watched her son eating steamed eggs deliciously with a spoon, wearing Little Huzi’s apron.
After the meal, Meng Yunhan started arranging the rooms for them.
“Commissar Gu, sister-in-law, you’ve been on the train for so long, take the kids, freshen up, and sleep for a while. I have class in the afternoon,” Yunhan suggested.
Zhou Mei and Commissar Gu knew about Yunhan’s schooling.
“Sister, go to your classes. We’ll manage. Uncle is here, isn’t he?” responded Zhou Mei.
Father Zhao chuckled and said, “Go ahead to class, your father is home.”
Yunhan felt at ease after hearing their words and went to her class.
Zhou Mei put her daughter and son to bed after giving them baths as they needed an afternoon nap.
“Here is an electric fan.” Father Zhao pulled a fan out of the storeroom and brought it to their room.
Commissar Gu took it and said, “Uncle, you can go take Little Huzi to school. We are strangers here, you don’t need to be so courteous.”
Father Zhao laughed and said, “Yes, you are not strangers.” And then he left to take Little Huzi to school.
Zhou Mei and Commissar Gu heated some water to wash off the filth from their journey.
Then they noticed their children had fallen asleep.
Zhou Mei whispered, “Yunhan, this house mustn’t have been cheap, right?” Owning a house this big in Kyoto certainly isn’t cheap. When would they be able to buy their own house?
Now, to fund their children’s education, they have to work hard to earn money and also save for a house.
Commissar Gu knew his wife was envious of Yunhan’s present situation.
They had no house in their hometown; his wife and he didn’t have a place of their own.
They’d been living a hard life over these years.
“We’ll settle down in Kyoto at some point. We won’t remit the money to our parents anymore. It ends up with our brother and sister-in-law anyway,” said Commissar Gu, not daring to voice the bitterness of his parents pocketing the money they send.
Instead of helping the parents out, they’d rather let the parents depend on their brother and sister-in-law. Regrettably, Commissar Gu was helplessly incapable of changing this fact.
And what made Commissar Gu so firm?
Because Little Shitou, his son, got sick the year before, he didn’t send the pension money back home. As a result, his parents sent a telegram to berate them.
Wasn’t that disheartening?
Couldn’t they ask why he didn’t send the pension?
Zhou Mei glanced at her husband, “Are you sure about not sending the money? Once it happens, your parents will definitely blame me, thinking I influenced you to stop remitting the money,” she remarked.
“We’re the family here. The moment our parents became partial, our relationship with them dampened. As Xiaoyun said, if a man can’t take good care of his wife, how can he be good? I wrote and informed them before moving to Kyoto,” Gu explained.
It wasn’t a sudden decision; he’d planned this long before.
Zhou Mei cherished her children above all. However, she held resentment towards her in-laws. She felt hurt seeing the obvious bias for her brother-in-law’s children, unjustly categorizing their own grandchildren.
Are they growing distant just because Little Apple and Little Shitou haven’t been raised by them?
Since Little Apple’s birth, they didn’t show much affection for her, and it was the same with Little Shitou.
They kept a considerable distance even in Kyoto.
“Do you think our parents will come to Kyoto and make a fuss?” Zhou Mei was fearful about her parents coming to Kyoto as it would put her husband in a bad light at work.
Looking at the sleeping faces of the two children, Commissar Gu assured, “I haven’t told them about my transfer to Kyoto.” They wouldn’t be able to locate him even if they tried to stir up trouble in the Magic City.
